ACTT Substance Use Specialist

The ACT Team Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct and indirect services to adult consumers with severe and persistent mental illness with co-morbid substance abuse issues, and resulting significant functional impairment. This position provides consult regarding the treatment of all ACTT consumers with an identified SA issue. The ACTT SA Counselor supports consumers challenged with SA issues in changing destructive behaviors and learning new coping skills. This position provides recovery-oriented interventions designed to sustain active community living on as independent a level as possible for each consumer. This position participates in intake, orientation, and treatment planning; screening and assessment; case management; service coordination, consultation, and referral; supportive counseling, education, and skills development; crisis management; and documentation. The ACT Team SA Counselor must be a CCS, LCAS, LCAS-A, or CSAC and meet the status of a Qualified Professional according to 10A NCAC 27G .0104. The ACT Team must operate within the following staff-to-consumer ratios (excluding the Psychiatrist and Program Assistant): 1. Small Team, up to 50 consumers, 1-8 clinical staff to client ratio; 2. Mid-Size or Large Team, 51-120 consumers, 1-9 staff to client ratio.
About your role:
- Plan, coordinate and oversee initial and ongoing assessment activities.
- Conduct or participate in ongoing clinical or substance abuse assessments considering the relationship between substance abuse and mental health. These include assessment of: psychiatric and substance abuse history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; physical health and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships; ASAM level and stages of change
- Develop client’s PCP using Person-Centered Thinking. Revise and update client’s PCP as necessary per result of ongoing assessment activities.

Must meet requirements for a CCS, LCAS, LCAS-A or CSAC in NC:
- Certified clinical supervisor (CCS)" means an individual who is certified as such by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board
- "Licensed clinical addictions specialist (LCAS)" means an individual who is licensed as such by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.
- “Licensed clinical addictions specialist associate (LCAS-A)” means an individual who is provisionally licensed as such by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.
- "Certified substance abuse counselor (CSAC)" means an individual who is certified as such by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Certification Board
Must meet requirements for a qualified professional in North Carolina per 10A NCAC 27G .0104:
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Baccalaureate Degree in Social Work or Psychology, or a related human services field. Has 2 years of MH/DD/SA experience providing direct service to the population served OR
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related human services field. Has 1 year of MH/DD/SA experience providing direct service to the population served OR has contracted with a professional licensure board. OR
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Baccalaureate Degree or a Master’s Degree in a field unrelated to human services. Has required number of years of MH/DD/SA experience providing direct service to the population served.
- 2 years related experience and/or training, licensure preferred.
